  3.                      ABC FUN KEYS REVISION HISTORY

  6.    I owe a great deal of thanks to many users of the ABC FUN KEYS program for
  7.    their ideas which you see incorporated below.  I sincerely welcome any
  8.    suggestions you may have that will make this program more enjoyable for
  9.    little children.

  12.    ABC FUN KEYS Ver. 4.40
  13.    ----------------------
  14.      *  The major change for this update was the addition of all new pictures
  15.         for the alphabet letters.  The new pictures were illustrated by my
  16.         Mother, Becky Krehbiel.  Becky is a professional children's artist and
  17.         has created many wonderful coloring books and elementary learning
  18.         books for children.  Her touch adds an enormous amount of appeal and
  19.         enjoyment to this program.  For those who are interested, the old set
  20.         of pictures is available as a free download from the ABC Bulletin
  21.         Board System at (619) 436-3525.  If you prefer a copy by mail, it is
  22.         available for a handling charge of $6.00.
  23.  
  24.      *  An important change was made that affects only shareware users of ABC
  25.         Fun Keys.  If a picture file is available for the letter, that picture
  26.         is shown and a nursery rhyme is played.  If the picture is NOT
  27.         available, ABC displays a vector line drawing of the letter and plays
  28.         the same nursery rhyme song.  Previous versions would not allow a
  29.         letter to be used if the full picture file was not available.  This
  30.         feature is not relevant to registered users since the registered user
  31.         version has picture files for all the letters and numbers.

  33.      *  Added the command line switches /F and /K.  The /F switch allows the
  34.         user to turn off flashing background colors when a letter was
  35.         correctly identified.  The /K switch prevents ABC from resetting the
  36.         keyboard NumLock, CapsLock, and ScrollLock keys.  Some users were
  37.         having compatibility problems in this area.

  39.      *  The registered user's name was added to the opening children's menu
  40.         screen.

  43.    ABC FUN KEYS VER. 4.30

  45.      *  The only change was an UPDATE to the MAILING ADDRESS.  Due to lease
  46.         arrangements beyond our control, we are being forced to change our
  47.         address.  Address changes are traumatic for shareware programs.  We
  48.         will greatly appreciate your help to distribute this new version of
  49.         ABC Fun Keys to BBS's and shareware libraries.

  51.    ABC FUN KEYS VER. 4.21
  52.    ----------------------
  53.      *  Major addition was the integrated installation program, INSTALL.EXE. 
  54.         This will automatically install the ABC program to hard or floppy
  55.         disk, unpack files if necessary, introduce the user to some of the
  56.         more important game configuration features, and allow the
  57.         documentation to be viewed and/or printed.
  58.  
  59.      *  Three minor program bugs were fixed.  For the most part, these were
  60.         inconsequential.  The most serious was a bug that could cause ABC to
  61.         hang in Heaven & Mud on very slow XT computers running monochrome
  62.         monitors.

  65.    ABC FUN KEYS VER. 4.20

  67.      *  Modified the opening "child's" menu to allow easier and more intuitive
  68.         entry into the setup features of the program.  Setup and Help are now
  69.         Alt-S and Alt-H respectively.

  71.      *  Changed the animation technique in Heaven and Mud.  As a result,
  72.         pictures cross over each other better and move more realistically to
  73.         heaven or mud.  Animation is smoother.
  74.  
  75.      *  Minor changes were made to the automatic speed selection in Heaven and
  76.         Mud.  Performance is better on XT class computers.
  77.  
  78.      *  Changed the "Please Press a Key" window in Game 4 (Select) to a
  79.         graphic image.  Keys that do not have a picture file associated with
  80.         them like "%" now have a graphic image of the key displayed on the
  81.         screen.  The earlier error message has been eliminated.

  83.      *  Added a surprise picture to the win and lose endings of Heaven and
  84.         Mud.

  86.      *  Changed the "0" "O" and "i" "j" confusing typefaces in Heaven and Mud
  87.         to more easily distinguished symbols.

  89.      *  Removed Num-Lock key from program use.  It use to shut off the sound.
  90.         Unfortunately, it was confusing to many people.
  91.  
  92.      *  Rearranged many pictures to display better graphics in the Hercules
  93.         monochrome mode.
  94.  
  95.      *  Made the scrolling lyrics go completely across the top of the screen
  96.         instead of the upper left corner.
  97.  
  98.      *  Added a command line switch to turn off the scrolling lyrics for the
  99.         nursery rhyme songs.
  100.  
  101.      *  Made speed change in Heaven and Mud "semi-permanent" until the ABC is
  102.         exited.  Speed and performance changes done in setup are permanent as
  103.         always.
  104.  
  105.      *  A few small bugs were fixed like new routines for turning the cursor
  106.         on and off -- hopefully no more lost cursor on a few graphics boards.
  107.         Also fixed an inappropriate use of color in one of the monochrome mode
  108.         help screens.

  110.         ABC FUN KEYS VER. 4.12
  111.    ----------------------
  112.      *  Added the command line parameter /T to allow the user to adjust the
  113.         tempo of the nursery rhyme songs.
  114.  
  115.      *  Made a slight change to correct an "operational inconsistency" that
  116.         caused a return to the adult setup menu on succeeding games.  (Nice
  117.         euphemism for bug.)

  120.    ABC FUN KEYS VER. 4.11

  122.      *  Added a feature to the control panel to allow the number of pictures
  123.         played in a game to be limited.  At the end of the selected number of
  124.         pictures, the "child's" menu is displayed.

  126.      *  Fixed a small bug that caused the command line parameter /Q (totally
  127.         quiet operation) not to work correctly. (Blush)

  130.    ABC FUN KEYS VER. 4.10

  132.      *  Added on-screen scrolling lyrics for all twenty-seven nursery rhyme
  133.         songs.

  135.      *  Many of the nursery rhyme melodies have been revised and improved. 
  136.         * MANY THANKS * to Jeff Elhai of East Lansing, Michigan for these
  137.         corrections and improvements!  Jeff also provided many of the other
  138.         suggestions that have been incorporated in this latest release.  Thank

  141.      *  Shut off NUM Lock, Scroll Lock, and Caps Lock upon initial entry to
  142.         program to avoid confusion with several features.

  144.      *  Added functional arrow keys to the opening kids menu.

  146.      *  Added adjustable timing for Game 3 and the corresponding control panel
  147.         settings.

  149.      *  Added an option for easy program restart and exit.
